A lot of churches are almost ‘cultish’ in that the majority of their social interaction is only with other church members. Some even go as far as saying interaction with the people outside the church is wrong. This to me is against the teaching of Jesus when he stated the great commission:
“Matthew 28: 18-20 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always(s), even unto the end of the world. Amen”.
He distinctly tells us all to go and teach all nations (people) and since people within the specific church should already know about Jesus they should be going also not just interacting with others in the church.Another instance of this is the Sermon on the Mount, it was given to various people who were sitting on the ground, not in a tabernacle listening to Jesus talk. These people were not ‘church’ people, but came from all walks of life to hear our Savior speak. All in one mind and accord and that to hear what Jesus had to say.
Our day to day lives are our testimony not the words we say or the acts we do in church on Sunday or Saturday if your denomination is one that observes Saturday as the Sabbath. Our lives should be a testament for Jesus and we should not need a button on our lapel to indicate that we are a Christian, the presence of Jesus in our lives should be readily felt by anyone we come in contact with.
If we do not associate with non-church people and show them God;s love or our lives are not a Christian witness on a daily basis, then people will not trust us enough to believe what we tell them about Jesus and we are not performing the great commission
